“The Land” is rising on the Gulf Coast.

Ground was broken this month in Saraland, Ala. (population 16,738, 15 minutes north of Mobile), on a 78,000-square-foot fieldhouse that will include four basketball courts, eight indoor volleyball courts, an indoor track, a fitness center and a family entertainment center with food and beverage amenities. The 100-acre site also will include five outdoor multipurpose fields, eight baseball/softball diamonds (including a 400-foot NCAA regulation-sized field), six tennis courts, pickleball courts and a beach volleyball court.

KemperSports, which will operate the complex on behalf of the city, also will oversee the venue’s brand design, public relations, marketing, assess the town’s current parks and recreational facilities, and make recommendations on how to enhance future programming opportunities.

The city is funding 100% of the $72 million project, which is set to open next spring.
